Update on virtual graduation

Our marketing team has been diligently working on the virtual graduation experience that will go live on December 18, at 1 p.m. The last two semesters have not gone as anyone expected, but our students have persevered and deserve to be celebrated for their accomplishments. We know very few things are better than walking across the stage to receive your diploma, but this virtual graduation experience will be something you don’t want to miss.

 

91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ staff and faculty updates

• The downside to having a great team of people is that you can’t keep everyone forever. Connie Cross, Registrar, is going to be the next Registrar at Evangel University. Connie has worked at 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ for several years and has done an outstanding job. We will miss her, but wish her the best in her new position.
• Congratulations to faculty members Dr. Michelle Jackson and Dr. Kyle Brashear for earning their doctoral degrees!

 

Visit from 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ AirCare

Third semester BSN students were visited by 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ AirCare flight nurses and paramedics, who, of course, arrived at 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ via helicopter. Students learned about different roles within the emergency setting such as pre-hospital care, triage, and critical management of patients with trauma.

The crew was led by Jim Lawrence, a 30-year veteran of 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ and 1988 Burge graduate. Being a flight nurse for over 20 years, Jim is a pillar in the emergency and trauma community for his dedicated work within the health care system. We so appreciate them coming to visit, and for what they do on a daily basis! Pictures of this event can be found on 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ’s Facebook.

 

EDA Grant

Good news! We received a $1.9 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) to renovate and expand our simulation center! This will be hugely instrumental in educating a larger number of health care professionals. According to the EDA, this grant will be matched with $470,480 in local funds and is expected to create over 1,300 jobs!

Amber Peters, an Assistant Professor in our Psychiatric Mental Health Practitioner Program, was recently named a Health Care Champion by the Springfield Business Journal! Her accomplishments not only include those at 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, but also in several health care related endeavors in our community. We’re proud to have Amber at 91Ï㽶ÊÓƵ!
